Weekly Update Nov 24, 2023

KUDOS

To all our charge nurses!! You guys are incredibly important to keeping staffing levels safe on nights and weekends. Not only do you have our full support for decisions but we appreciate you!!! 

Patient Stickers on Equipment

Please ensure you are putting patient stickers directly onto beds, cribs, side tables etc. They are very difficult to get off and the wrong sticker for the patient has been found in rooms lately. Do your part to keep our patients safe :)

Bronchiolitis High Flow titration protocol

This is now in effect. Laminated copies of the clinical procedure is now attached to all high flow devices for reference.

Safety and Reducing Patient Risk

Now that education days are done let's keep the idea of always doing our best to utilize our foundations safety practices in the key areas that we have seen areas for improvement. 

  • Safe Medication admin
    • Qshift order and MAR checks
    • MAR to the bedside (new sleeves for precautions rooms are being added and stocked in med rooms)
    • complete and proper independent double checks for all required medications
  • Preventing Hospital Acquired Infections
    • thinking about the potential for infection spread in terms of Point of Care Risk Assessments
    • Ensuring signage and SCM are updated with precautions
    • terminal cleans when precautions for identified pathogens has expired
    • PPE compliance and always doing following the 4-moments for hand hygiene
    • Clean charts Qshift
  • PEWS
    • embedding the identification of PEWS yellow and red in all our communication will help keep this important tool going on the unit

    


REMINDER:

If you want to be able to give the COVID vaccine, you need to have your MyConnection eLearning Module for COVID vaccine completed. Pharmacy will send you the form you can fill out and send in to Public Health. Public Health will put the vaccine into the patient’s record.

If you want to be able to give the Seasonal Influenza vaccine, you need to have your MyConnection eLearning Module for the Seasonal Influenza completed. This eLearning module is an ANNUAL completion as the module is new EVERY autumn.

Weekly Update Nov 9, 2023

 Accreditation 

Thank you to everyone who had an opportunity to engage with the accreditation surveyors this week. There was some great initial feedback on the quality of care that we provide and a special acknowledgement from the report out to the SHA Executive Leadership and CEO for the strong work being done in pediatric care. We will share details from their full report when it comes out. Thanks for all that you do because the great things that get highlighted are a reflection of what you do every day.

CNE updates

Niltac, our adhesive remover wipe, has rebranded as ESENTA. You will see the new packages as old product is used up. The action and function of the wipe is unchanged.

Annual elearning

Just a reminder if you haven't completed your annual elearing that goes along with ed days, that this is to be done by the end of the month, and is considered complete when you do the Mandatory Quiz for the 2023 Acute Care Pediatrics elearning and send BFI certificates to Tanzly.

Peer FIT testing Next dates for fit testing on the ward: April 15/25 0930-1400 April 28/25 1930-2300 May 8/25 0930-1400 May 13/25 ...
