PIPD Update Jun 28, 2024

Kudos

Now that we have had some time with open beds folks are finding little things to fix in patient rooms. This really helps so please keep it up and have UAs put in the appropriate reqs.

IPC - please clamp down on patients who are on isolation precautions from being in halls. They can move between areas with PPE and hand hygiene when needed but are not to play, wander, or being outside their rooms otherwise. Reminder that there are IPAC Patient Information Hand-Outs on the SHA website. Just search "Patient Information Handout". You will find one pagers on Contact, Droplet, Airborne, CPO, C.Diff, Noro, and TB that you can print and give to families on admission which is useful in educating them on what rules they need to follow.

EPP - reminder that there are wall mounted clear boxes at each of the flow stations with EPP plans including the Service Disruption plan for events such as downtime procedures when our digital applications go down. For example, if Allscripts Patient Flow goes down you can still admit a patient to the unit by calling the System Flow Coordinator and notifying them of the patient and room they will be going to. The System Flow clerks will then update the system when it comes back online. This eliminates any need to delay patient transfers as a result of a disruption. Feel free to send feedback on any EPP plans if you have any.

Heparin infusions - the standard IVF change period of 96hrs does not apply to when mediations are infusing, including Heparin. With medications the entire IV set-up (bag and tubing) must be changed daily.

Laundry room update -  the room is out of commission as a new washer and dryer was delivered on July 28. We are waiting to hook these up before opening the laundry room again.

Upcoming manager coverage:

- week of July 1: Fiona

- week of July 8: Jonathan

- week of July 15: Jonathan

- week of July 22: Fiona

AIMS

Gateway Online and VIP update

Historical information on Gateway Online and VIP, including pay stubs and T4s, will remain available for download for the foreseeable future. This means employees will not need to submit tickets to MyConnection to access pre-AIMS employee information. Please note that payslips from July 4, 2024, onward will be available through MyConnection.

Tips for accessing MyWork

With AIMS launched in MyConnection there are more functions for employees to access. One function, called MyWork (located on the top right-hand side), is where you can go to view personal information, pay information, and more.

Here are some instructions for accessing MyWork:

No need to login with credentials: On the login page, click Company Single Sign-On to access MyWork. Do not attempt to input a user ID and password as this will lock you out of your account.

MyWork tab may be hidden on your MyConnection homepage: Your screen may be zoomed in too much, resulting in existing banners blocking the tab.

To gain visibility of the MyWork tab on the homepage, you may have to zoom out on your screen.

To zoom out using your keyboard: Click CTRL and the - (minus) key together until the MyWork tab is visible.

To zoom out through your browser: Click on the three dots at the top right of your Google Chrome browser and scroll to the zoom option.

CNE Update:

Suction tubing/cannisters and Oxygen tubing must be changed qSunday & PRN if in use.
Sterile Water bottles (for feeds, mouthcare) must be changed q24H
NS bottles (for cleaning out suction tubing) must be changed q24H

NEW q-cards:
     1. How to set up bed traction for our Halo patients. This is also hung up in room 2013 where the traction supplies are kept. Ortho team should still be setting up traction but this is the guide to help.
     2. Saskatchewan Bleeding Disorders Program - information on important phone numbers, how to find the product monographs, and other quick tips!

Found an IV pump or Syringe pump not working? - Write down exactly what is the pump showing and give to the Support Staff to send to maintenance. If you aren't specific with why the pump isn't working, clinical engineering doesn't know how to help.

- if your request is >72hrs in advance, you select a Family Leave request from the dropdown options and in the comments specify the family member and the general nature of why you need a leave.

Infection Control Info for Patients and Families - did you know that there are one page handouts for patients and families when it comes to precautions? Just search "Patient Information Handout" on the SHA Intranet and the first result is the IPAC Patient Information Hand-Outs page. Here you will find one pagers on Contact, Droplet, Airborne, CPO, C.Diff, Noro, and TB that you can print and give to families on admission which is useful in educating them on what rules they need to follow.

CNE Updates

1. CADD-Solis PCA Pumps – “Go-Live” is Monday June 17. This means no more regular PCA pumps will be seen as of this date.

There is step by step instructions on: how to use the pump, practice scenario orders, and a troubleshooting/general tips guide on the S drive and in the new Epidural/PCA binders (unit 2). The pumps are very easy to use and we will keep the pumps for as long as we are allowed.

2. Congratulations to our lovely newly trained Obs staff – Amirali, Travis, Kaitlyn F., Shar, & Mary Rose!

3. Supply Carts – we just wanted to thank everyone who has brought supply issues to us. We have put in requests frequently over the last year to add stock or increase the stock amounts. Currently, cart changes is on a hold due to AIMS. We have put in requests (increasing Sim Sensitive, etc) but that will be done once the supply change freeze is over. If you are needing to order specific products – either because we are frequently running out or because it is not stocked, please send a message to a CNE and we can assist.

5. The Pediatric & Neonatal Central Venous Access Device (CVAD) eLearning module is now available. The changes to practice will take effect July 23. More information to come next week on practice changes but it will not replace the need to complete the MyConnection eLearning module. MatChild - Pediatric & Neonate CVAD Learning Module (thinkific.com)

6. eLearning – there eLearning platform has changed. To access the current 2024 eLearning:

go to fSHR Info net -> E-learning site -> CLICK on “nursing”. DO NOT USE the Acute Care Pediatric drop down -> select “Pediatric Inpatient Department” -> enroll in the course

Record keeping of learning for our unit – Going forward, we have a Learning Record folder at the sign in desk (outside the manager offices). Please initial the learning you have completed. Right now, we have a spot for: CADD-Solis PCA pump elearning, Pediatric & Neonatal CVAD elearning, and Annual Reviews 2024. No need to send us your certificates anymore.

7. Alteplase/Occlusion Management for Central Lines – This is not an RN procedure for our unit right now – it must remain Physician responsibility until the new Clinical Standard and Guidelines Go-Live. We will ensure the updated information is available and blitzed prior to the procedure becoming the RN responsibility.

8. NEW Q-card on Saskatchewan Bleeding Disorders Program – Please review for any Bleeding Disorder patients.

      9. Please note that when Diabetic Patients are admitted to hospital, CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitoring) cannot be used for making treatment decisions.  Please see below pdf for explanations on this. https://www.saskhealthauthority.ca/system/files/2024-05/CS-G-0241-CGM-FAQ-for-Acute-Care-Setting.pdf

E02 Elevator RUH (entry into Medical Imaging) - this is now prox card access only 24 hours a day.  Unfortunately the signage that has been put up has not been effective in reducing the amount of “lost” patients and family members entering the back of Medical Imaging.
