Weekly Update July 7, 2023
RN/LPN Certification Records: If you have done
training in the last year (Orientation or Chemo), your certification records
are outside the Managers office in the CNE basket.
Last dose on MARs – reminder that all MAR
notifications with “last day/dose” for specific medications need to be flagged
for the medical teams to review.
PD supplies – all PD machines and supplies go to and
from storage room 2013, not the hemodialysis room.
Congenital Syphilis Public Health Process – all original
orders for Pen G and daily MARs must be faxed to public health. MARs
need to be faxed at midnight as Public Health Tracks doses given for the entire
10 day course of treatment. If any doses are missed a 10-day course must be
restarted. There is a Q-card with these details and fax number in the S drive.
Night nurse chemotherapy checks:
Chemo checks are done by two chemo trained nurses on nights.
Chemo checks are done the first
night that chemotherapy orders are written. They check the BSA,
correct drug and dosage of chemotherapy, the roadmap and MAR against the
original orders. Subsequent day of chemo infusion the night nurse does the
usual MAR to MAR comparison.
Can I give an antibiotic in a 3ml syringe through a
central line? Yes you can. When flushing with NS we must use a 10 ml
syringe as we are using a stop start technique to clear the line. However, you
can administer an IV antibiotic in a 3ml syringe over 3-5 minutes as you are
pushing the med slowly and not exerting the same amount of pressure on the line
as you do with a NS flush. There is a higher risk of cross contamination
transferring antibiotics from one syringe to another than there is of damaging
the line with a slow IV push medication in a 3ml syringe.
Transfusion Medicine Education Needs survey – please
send transfusion med your thoughts on education needs https://redcap.usask.ca/redcap/surveys/?s=JLL7HE83KX4NRRDD
All employees must complete the mandatory privacy
training module by September 30, 2023. This is not the same as the Cyber
Security Training that was completed earlier this year.
