 Weekly Update July 21, 2023

Hydrocortisone shortage:

There is currently a hydrocortisone shortage. If your patient has hydrocortisone ordered for any reason other than septic shock or adrenal insufficiency please advise the physician ordering that it is not available at this time and to order a suitable alternative.

Methylprednisolone should be ordered on the pediatric reaction order set instead of hydrocortisone.

Please see attached memo.

Resource nurses – an updated ‘Facilities Census with Diagnosis’ (short census list) will be printed daily at 1830 along with a the longer one for Charge Nurses so that the resource nurse has an update patient list for the night shift.

Label 100ml NS bags with 30 day expiration date once large bag opened: It has been brought to our attention that once the large bag is opened then the 100ml bags inside expire in 30 days once opened. Please label the bags remaining using the date opened stickers. Continue to check the bag expiry date as well. See attached safety alert.
