 Broviac sign out:

A reminder that if you are getting a Broviac for someone, please ensure you sign it out. We are going through a lot of these and want to ensure we know why and where they are going. thank you

Student Preceptor’s – we are once again looking for some student preceptors for spring/summer session. We truly appreciate all of you that have previously been a preceptor. We build and grow amazing future nurses on our ward because of this support.

Vocera and Glucometers:

eHealth technical teams in collaboration with Digital Health have developed a clear plan and timeline to fully address the glucometer connectivity issue. Based on the completed troubleshooting and assessment, the solution will include adding wired connections( unit 2 we hope) for select glucometer bases and upgrading wireless access points in key areas. The assessment will continue Friday, and all short‑term fixes to restore reliable connectivity and enable glucometer updates will be in place by end of day Tuesday, February 10. Currently the wired in docking station is in PICU.

Receipt of PACU pt. to ward- This is a gentle reminder that PACU team greatly appreciates us coming into the room to support the admission onto the unit (transfer into room). This is a part of the accepting nurse’s role so thank you for supporting this if you are already doing so.

NEW- Safety on the unit at night

Unit assist to print the list of codes every night and have it available at unit 1 to allow for easier control of admitting visitors that can be here.  Please do not hesitate to call security if you notice any suspicious activity in the front reception room or ward. They are also trying to round more often.

When Resilience Fails - well-being video series

This short video, When Resilience Fails (three minutes), reminds us that feeling overwhelmed or detached is not weakness—it is what happens when resilience is depleted. It introduces a simple “regular check-in” practice to help you notice early signs of stress, pause, and reset before burnout.

Visit the SHA Well-being webpage for more information about our well-being model and available supports.

Hazardous/Cytotoxic Medications

Best practice is that Nurses should not be cutting or crushing any hazardous/cytotoxic oral/tube medications on the unit with an open system. We can dissolve medications in the crush RX bag. Managers have taken this concern back to Pharmacy. Stay tuned for more information.
