Hello everyone – not too too bad for Friday the 13th. Once again, thank you! We had a mom and patient stop by our office with tears of appreciation. We know it can be quite heavy around here so are extra appreciative for these times of gratitude. Thank you for your caring!
Named Replacements:
Please ensure that your named replacement is at the same level or higher. Exceptions will only be considered if necessary to maintain proper unit staffing.
Accruals:
Accruals can now be accessed through the new location under Important Links, but please note they are only viewable while connected to the SHA network (e.g., using an SHA device or via VPN/VDI). This differs from the previous method through MyWork → MyScheduling, which allowed mobile access without an SHA connection. SHA is working on providing this access in future updates.
Safety Reporting:
The safety reporting QR code is currently unavailable. Please report safety issues via our usual process by calling 655-1600 from 0700-2100. After hours, you can submit reports online or leave a message with the 1600 number for a callback the next day. Falls forms should be faxed to the appropriate number on the form, with a copy given to the manager. If the safety incident involves a staff member, please report it by phone to 1600, not online. The online reporting link is: http://vsantos.sktnhr.ca/aems_prod/
Student Preceptors:
We are looking for student preceptors for the spring/summer session. We greatly appreciate those of you who have already served in this role—your support helps us develop excellent future nurses on our ward.
PACU:
When receiving PACU patients, remember that supporting the admission and transfer into the room is part of the accepting nurse’s role. PACU will continue to ask for assistance as needed.
New - Safety on the Unit at Night:
Unit staff should print the list of codes each night and keep it at Unit 1 to help manage visitor access. Please contact security if you observe any suspicious activity in the front reception or ward area. Security will also be rounding more frequently.
Professional Development Funds:
For information on professional development funding, please visit: Professional Development Funds
Binders:
We have ordered new 3" maroon binders for long-term pediatric patients. These are to remain on the pediatric unit.
E-learning: We understand there is a lot to do, but just a gentle nudge to try to peck away at it.
Night sleeping:
Please make sure to take your breaks and rest during night shifts, but also remember to clean up afterward. This includes returning sleep mattresses, pillows, and warm packs to their proper places.
Thanks everyone!
Sharon & Kelly.
