Christmas Day meal -  The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) recognizes staff working on Christmas Day are foregoing time with their families and friends to ensure patients and clients receive the care they need during the holiday season. While there is little that compares to the joy of sharing a holiday meal at home, Nutrition and Food Services welcomes staff working on Christmas day to receive a courtesy meal during the operational hours of the cafeterias and kitchens where they work.

SaskTel CNET Firewall Upgrade - Thursday December 5 from 0001-0600. Expected outage will be approximately for 5 minutes at 0230 Dec 5. This will include the following services:

CNE Updates

Cactus SmartSink (in med rooms) - see picture below

G-tube:  Just a reminder that there is G-J tube information on the s-drive in the Qcards when you have questions about replacement Gtubes, care and when to replace a Gtube.  Remember if the tube falls out during the first 2 months, you must contact surgery to replace the tube.  The tube needs to be well established >2 months before nursing can reinsert.

Vaccines:  DTaP-IPV-Hib reconstitution has changed.  This is a new practice province wide.   To reconstitute - withdraw the entire contents of QUADRACEL and insert them into the powder of lyophilized ActHIB vaccine.  Swirl this gently and then withdraw 0.5 mL of PENTACEL.  Pharmacy will be sending up reconstitution instructions with the vaccine.  If in doubt, there is a Public Health Consultant available to answer questions @ 3065147599.  See PIPD Vaccine Admin work standard for more information.

Size 6F foleys are on the unit and have an Integral Stylet to give the small catheter some stiffness.  In speaking with Urology this week, a reminder that a size 6F catheter with stylet is ok to use for our patients, and has been used safely for many years.  Insert catheter and remove stylet when urine has entered the foley catheter.  When you have confirmed placement and urine flowing, inflate the balloon.
