Weekly Update May 12, 2023

PICU à PIPD transfers – ongoing and recent challenges with the handover of patients coming out of PICU has led to a new handover process for all transfers. We’ve worked with PICU on this for the last month and trialed the process for two transfers, one complex and one straightforward, and had really positive results. Therefore, we are implementing the process effective immediately (see attached WS). The main difference is that we will go to do handover in PICU and bring the patient back with them. This allows for better communication at the start and opportunities to see the patient as part of that handover. We are in discussions with NICU as well about doing a similar process with them in the future.

Dietician charting change MAY 15 – starting May 15 RDs will be charting in SCM in three documents: 1) NFS RD Nutrition Assessment 2) NFS RD Progress Note – Pediatrics 3) NFS RD Nutrition Support Flowsheet.

PIPD will be participating in an Implanted Vascular Access Device Trail.  Any patients getting a new port will be a part of this trialThere will be evaluation forms in the Charge nurse room and we are asking that only experienced staff access and de-access these ports and help participate in the evaluation and share their experience.  More details to come next week.

JPCH Bronchiolitis Pulse Oximetry Monitoring Protocol Survey – for the trial bronchiolitis protocol used this winter, here is a quick evaluation survey we would love to get staff feedback on - https://redcap.rqhealth.ca/apps/surveys/?s=XXKF8H37HF9JYAWH

Please find attached the work standard for accessing Occupational Therapy Services on the weekends and statuary holidays. This will take effective, May 13, 2023.  Please share with your teams and physicians as appropriate.

Please welcome our 12 new staff who have started orientation. To our Charge Nurses & Resource nurses - we know there are a lot of new staff to think about so we have created a (hopefully) easier way to plan the buddy and independent shifts. There are clipboards hanging on the wall in the Charge Room. Please see the attached picture. We hope this helps

Saskatchewan Health Authority Patient Label Standardization Survey

The purpose of the survey is to gather and assess valuable input from areas whose work is directly impacted by patient labels. Provincial standardization will establish a uniform patient label to be used across the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), instead of regional label differences between our former health regions.

Completing the survey will take approximately one to three minutes, and responses are confidential. The survey link will be available from May 9 to June 9.

Please feel free to forward the Patient Label Standardized survey link to front-line staff.
