PIPD Update Dec 5, 2025

 Updates:

If you are not licensed yet, you cannot work! Please check your license status on CRNS (login like you would to do a renewal).

Just so everyone is aware, we will be adding sterile water solutions and the feeding bags onto the supply carts. If an in room kanban runs out, we ask that staff pull off the supply carts rather than pulling from another room. Supply team is having a hard time keeping up with replenishing the in room carts and are trying to keep the large stock cart they are moving on the ward, ergonomically safe for staff to move.

Safety’s:

This month our team has caught and prevented errors before they have happened on the ward. Nice work team!

One thing we can improve on:  labelling of specimens. Please ensure you are double checking that all specimens are labelled correctly before sending down.

As a reminder, there are many outstanding narcotic discrepancies on pyxis.  Please look to see if you have any to resolve.

Theme Days:

We are wanting to add some fun to December and so thought we could have some theme days on Fridays:

Dec 5 – wear Red!

Dec 12 – holiday scrubs day!

Dec 18 – Christmas accessory day – hats, earrings, socks, antler etc.

Dec 23 – Christmas sweater day or wear green and red!

The child life team would like to share with nursing that we can book the theatre in December for special movie times with a fun treat basket donated by the foundation.  Any family interested in booking the theatre can contact recreational therapy at any time outside of regular scheduled programs.

Thanks everyone, have a great weekend!

From Food and Nutrition:

"I wanted to share a concern that came up yesterday. I received a call from a patient’s husband who mentioned that his wife had already placed her meal order, but he had forgotten to order his own. When he tried to place an order, the system did not allow it. I explained that meals are provided for patients only, but he mentioned that he had been told by a nurse that visitors or partners could also order trays.

F&N have heard similar concerns in the past, from both Peds and Maternity, and it seems there may be some misunderstanding among families and nurses about meal availability for visitors. At this time, we are only able to provide trays for patients. Family members and visitors are welcome to purchase meals from the Mall Café or the cafeteria at RUH, as we do not yet have a process in RSE to send trays to visitors."

CNE Updates

Congrats to our newest Chemotherapy Certified staff! We are excited to see you step into this new role. 😊

NEW Q-Cards:
Gtube & Jtube information - we had many different q-cards and information sheets. We sent them all to the Gtube Nurse for consolidation. We now have 2 new q-cards:
    1. If the Gtube comes out: this is only on the S-Drive. It is an easy to follow algorithm for the steps needed when a Gtube comes out.
    2. Gtube & Jtube - Care & Maintenance: this is in each unit's recipe box and on the S-drive. It is all the Daily care (cleaning, redness, dressings, feed bags/tubing/extension set), Weekly care (balloon check), and q2 week care (change extension set). On the back is the ballon sizes for the tubes and a link to the current Clinical Procedure.

UPDATED Q-Card:
Healthy & Home Discharge Instructions for 7 days old & under: we no longer fax to Healthy & Home. We will be emailing the discharge information instead. Each Unit's printer has the email address saved as a shortcut. Place your documents into the printer like you would if faxing 🠊 select "email" 🠊 select the "star" at the top of the screen 🠊 scroll down until you see "healthy and home" and select. Then hit send.
Voila! No more failed faxes! 😎

RSV/Nirsevimab: NEW Work Standard to follow when administrating this Protective Antibody. Find it in the "RSV Nirsevimab monoclonal antibody (protective antibodies)" folder in the S-Drive Q-Cards - nursing. We must use the Nirsevimab Injection Record and send to the RSV nurse. DO NOT use our normal Vaccine Record Sheet and we DO NOT send to Public Health.

Monograph Updatesbecause 1600 calls/letting a CNE know really can make a change
doxycycline - pediatric dose information updated
metroNIDAZOLE - q24h appendicitis dosing for peds added
sodium thiosulfate - pediatric dose information updated, specifically for ototoxicity dosing
tranexamic acid - pediatric dose information added

Plum360 Pump Drug Library Updates:
A pump update occurred on December 3, 2025. When you turn a Plum360 Pump on, you should see the date and version on the CCA selection screen:

Title of Update:

December 2025 Update

Version of Update:

6.32 11902

If you are using a pump that does not have this Update, turn it off and try turning it back on. If that does not work, please give it to a Unit Support Worker and have it sent to Clinical Engineering.
Many of the pump library concerns staff have brought forward are currently under review by the Smart Pump Program.

You may see a new 6Fr foley catheter. It is self-lubricated which allows for smoother insertion and increased comfort on insertion and removal.
