PIPD Update June 26, 2026

Hello everyone!

Happy Grad season, happy end of the school year, and happy Friday to those who celebrate! 🎉

Thank you! A big thank you to everyone who has been mentoring our new staff on Pediatrics. Your patience, support, and willingness to teach make such a difference, and it's truly appreciated. They'll be independently working in less than 120 days, with many finishing orientation by the end of June and throughout July—exciting to see their progress!

FYI – Collodion Remover
One of the techs mentioned that nursing was unable to locate the collodion remover today for a telemetry patient going for an MRI. There is a bottle kept in the medication room, and it should remain there for after-hours and urgent needs.

Schedule Update
We have a meeting with HR and the Union on Monday regarding the schedule. We're hopeful we'll have more information and updates to share afterward.

Social Committee
SHA has purchased three wetsuits for the patient in 55's, but staff have asked if we can increase that to seven. If you'd like to help us reach that goal, donations of $5 are welcome via e-transfer to the Social Committee. Thank you for your support!

Kudos:
Nina – Thank you for consistently providing exceptional patient care. Your dedication and compassion do not go unnoticed!

Kelly & Sharon

Did you know?

IV pumps and feeding pumps must be cleaned weekly, at minimum. This should be done by the nurses when the pumps are in the room. Unit Support will only clean once the patient is discharged. All pieces of the pump - the cord and pole - should also be cleaned. Please help keep our patients free from all the grime and germs.

CNE Update:

Vaccine Administration Record form update
Great news! Each unit's fax machine has the email address for the Public Health as a shortcut in the "email" option. Please use this when sending the Vaccine Administration Record to Public Health. No more fax failed!

Insulin Needles for Insulin Pens
Reminder: this is needle has a manual safety to be engaged after the insulin delivery. See the inside if of the glucometer box lid i each unit for written instructions and this visual guide:

THANK YOU
To all our staff for all your support, guidance and kindness to our most recent hires. We really appreciate you helping with head to toes and all the other pieces of care. You have truly shown why PIPD is the best.

Pyxis Discrepancies
Here is how to solve your Pyxis discrepancies:

This information can also found in the Pyxis folder on the S-drive.
Thank you in advance for clearing your discrepancies attached to your name each shift.

NEW Isolette coming soon!
We are finally getting our new isolettes to replace those old beasts. The company rep will be attending our unit to educate staff July 13-16 & July 20-23 during the DX shift & NX shift. Info sessions will take as little as 15 minutes but you can stay to ask questions and play with the new machines for longer. The new isolettes will start being used once training dates are complete and Clinical Engineering signs off.
