KUDOS
Jen M. for the perfectly filled out vaccine record form Nov 13.
CNE Update
Pyxis - there was a provincial pyxis upgrade which has resulted in a
recommendation from ISMP (Institute of Safe Medication Practices). This
recommendation is that all fridge medications will now require an override
where you have to enter the word “fridge”. An ask was sent forward to
have this removed, and it has been denied as this was decided by a provincial
operations team.
Radiation - if you have a patient going for Radiation, send them with a completed Sedation Package. A porter will come to get the patient & chart about 30 minutes prior to their appointment time.
NEW Q-CARD!
"Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy and Cancer Clinic" has been added to q-cards-nursing on the S-Drive. This new folder houses all information on Blina, Dinu, and all other things chemo, immunotherapy, and Oncology related topics.
NEW q-card in this folder - the Chemotherapy Administration Checklist! This is a guide to help you know what is needed the night before chemo, the morning of, and to set up.
NEW Q-CARD in Dinutuximab folder - Dintuximab Rate Change Calculations (for nursing) example. This was created in collaboration with Pharmacy to assist with calculating the rate changes. Please provide feedback if able. We want you to feel comfortable with this medication and the calculations.
Blood Administration - a new Provincial Transfusion Administration Record form is going live Nov 26. Very short notice but we have been told that Forms on Demand should have the new form active on Nov 26. If the form is not on FoD, then we will continue with our current form until FoD is ready.
Interesting tidbits include:
- an ABO/Rh Compatibility chart
- if no Adverse Transfusion Reaction has occurred, the blood component/product container and administration sets can be discarded after the 30 minute post transfusion vitals (into the biohazard bin).
- if the patient is unable to self identify reaction/anaphylaxis symptoms, the patient must be monitored continuously at the bedside for the 1st 15 minutes.
- an Acute Transfusion Reaction Chart
(this memo does not replace need to read the Clinical Standard)
Aaaaaand there are MyConnection eLearning modules too!
Information can be found at the Huddle Board, on each unit's whiteboard, and in the Certification Record folder at the sign-in desk. Please initial the eLearning as you complete the modules.
Ed Days - are officially concluded for this year! CPR rosters have been sent to Nursing Practice & Education's Nursing Office. Nursing Office enters the rosters into Heart & Stroke. Your personal CPR license will be updated shortly.
Glucometer sheets have been sent to the Lab and entered in. If you are unable to log into a glucometer as of next week, please reach out to a CNE.
