CNE Updates
🎉 Happy New Year! 🎉
We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and are ready for 2025!
Amoxicillin/Clavulanate - We have updated the cheat sheet for Amox/Clav calculation. We hope this simplified version makes it easier for you. It has been added to the Red IV Binder in each med room. You can always find it on the S-Drive 🠚 Pediatrics- Acute Care 🠚 Q-Cards - nursing 🠚 AmoxicillinClavulanate 1000mg and 200mg sample calculation
PTT & INR ordering - remember that when an order for a PTT is written, you need to req it as "APTT". If you do just "Prothrombin Time (PT) - INR" that is only an INR. We have had numerous re-pokes on children because a PTT was not drawn.
Chemotherapy drugs used for non-cancer treatment - If a patient has a chemotherapy drug, even for a non-cancer reason (CMV), it is still to be treated like a chemotherapy drug. A chemo certified RN must administer it, follows all safety checks like normal (2 chemo certified RNs double check med, PPE, handling drug, Equashield, and bodily fluids/waste). Please review policy: POLICY #1180 - SHR Chemotherapy Drugs for NON-Cancer Treatment - Administration and Precautions
Place the closed bag onto the black nursing table.Open the bag, leaving the medication in the bag.Put the female equashield onto your secondary tubing and spike the chemotherapy bag while it is laying flat on the black nursing table and still in the transport bag.Once spiked, you may now remove the drug from the transport bag and hang onto the pole.
