Tinfoil - is no longer available to be stocked by Stores. A new plan is in place! Twila has ordered and will continue to order. In the meantime, if you are out of tinfoil, you can wrap the specimen in 2 layers of brown paper towel then place it inside a blue glove before placing it into the specimen bag. This was the process as told by Chemistry (as of April 17 at 1421).
Measles - There was an online Healthcare Worker measles information session on April 10. This is the recording for the session: HCW measles Information session password is: 37JcYAcD
Introduction to Cultural Awareness MyConnection elearning - is passed due. Please complete ASAP if you already haven't.
There have been long standing issues with faxes not going
through to MRI. We would like people to start calling 1600 about this. The
issues need to be flagged to the appropriate people and departments to have
this dealt with and 1600 is the best route to do this. The physicians are aware
of this as well and can also make this call.
There is a Contact Plus poster in the set of precautions
posters that we post on the room doors. This is to be used for patients with
Norovirus and C.diff. It is a flag to housekeeping to clean the room with
bleach on discharge. Please use this, not just the orange wash hands sign we
have used in the past.
There have been issues with to tubing for the syringe pumps
cracking and leaking. If you are finding this issue, please fill out a product
concern form (in a folder in the CN room by the binders). There is an example for how to fill it out in that folder. If this is not a suitable product it needs to be documented to
get it changed.
Next dates for peer FIT testing: April 28th
1930-2330
RT & charting - RTs will be charting exclusively on SCM as of April 22.
CNE Update
NEW Feeding pump:
SHA is moving to the new Kangaroo OMNI feeding pump as of April 29. It is a very easy to use pump. We were lucky to get 18 staff on April 15th and 15 staff on April 17th trained by the vendor - you have some great superusers on the unit! We will have a practice pump available from April 22 - 28 in the CN room for you to practice with. There is an in-depth video:
Kangaroo Omni pump. Here are more videos split into categories if this is better for your learning:
My kangaroo learning.
We will have Quick Reference Guides and information available for you to learn. It is recommended to clean the cassette area of the pump every bag change (so q24h).
These pumps can only be cleaned with bleach wipes! We are pushing to have the stickers added like the syringe pumps.
Methotrexate 24hr & 36hr:
The worksheet on the S-Drive has been updated! Much appreciation to our Oncology Pharmacist who worked on this with us! Please look at the updated worksheet prior to starting a 24hr or 36hr Methotrexate infusion. Fingers crossed this solves our timing issue! 🤞
APHON Course - June 16 & 17:
An email has been sent out to some staff. We looked at
schedules & seniority and are offering to staff who are working a variety
of shifts so this would not leave the unit short. If those who were emailed are unable to attend, we will send invites to other staff - again looking at schedules and seniority. If you don't get an email for this course, you are still on the list for future courses! Any questions, come chat.
NEW folder in Q-card:
Ostomy and Wound Care Information - you can find information on pouching for ostomies, supplies, NPWT Maintenace and assessments (for VAC dressings), and a "Pediatric Ostomy and Wound Information" sheet on how to refer, when to refer and tips & tricks. Thank you to our Ostomy and Wound Nurse Kelly for this information.
Trees for oxygen tubing:
Please check the tubing ends prior to using a green "tree" on the oxygen flow meter of the wall. And end like this (see picture) will attach directly to a flow meter. If you are running low on trees, please check the cupboard in the CN room.
