Orders of Magnesium Sulfate: An order for magnesium sulfate should be ordered as a total dose "mg" or "mmol" - not elemental mg. This was clarified with the manager of Pharmacy and follows best practice for order writing for electrolytes. Please discuss with the safety risk with the ordering physician, speak with Pharmacy if clarification needed, and continue putting in Safety reports (306-655-1600). SHA’s
new Indigenous Hair Cutting Policy A message from Jennifer Ahenakew, Vice President of First
Nations and MΓ©tis Health We
are pleased to announce the release of the Saskatchewan Health Authority's
(SHA) Indigenous Hair Cutting Policy, an important step in our ongoing
journey toward reconciliation and the delivery of equitable and
culturally-safe care. This
policy reaffirms our commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to
Action. It supports our work to advance a culturally-responsive health-care
environment that acknowledges and respects the spiritual and cultural
significance of hair to many Indigenous peoples. The
Indigenous Hair Cutting Policy is grounded in shared responsibility. As part
of our CARES values, all SHA team members have a role in fostering inclusive,
respectful, and culturally-responsive health care. I
encourage each of us to review and understand the new Indigenous Hair Cutting
Policy. Thank
you for your ongoing commitment to strengthening cultural responsiveness. Reviewing the Indigenous Cultural Responsiveness Policy The SHA Indigenous Hair Cutting Policy (SHA-04-005) is now in
effect. All SHA team members are required to review this policy, including:
SHA employees – Access E-Learn to review the policy:

NEW Q-card: a step-by-step on how to tape IVs (with pictures). It is called "IV Taping Work Standard". We hope it helps with staff feeling more confident in their taping skills.
NEW Requisitions: "Microbiology" & "Serology & Viral Loads". These requisitions replace 2 previous forms: #101063 "Bacteriology/Mycology/TB/Parasitology" and #101061 "Molecular Microbiology/Virology" (the yellow one). SCM is still your go-to and this form can be used if it is not on SCM or cannot be found on SCM. These should be in the unit's filing cabinets by next week.
Ed Days: once staffing gives us a final list of the Ed Day schedule, an email will go out for casuals to sign up.
Annual eLearning: a list has been posted in the staff bathrooms, on the Education board, and the Certification Record folder at the sign-in desk (the list of staff has been updated too). Here's hoping there isn't any new learning coming out between now and end of December! π€
From Sharon & Tammy
We will be transitioning from
portable to permanent Kanbans in flex over the next few weeks. We will keep our
portable carts (minus one) for overflow and the treatment room. The rooms that
will have now have permanent carts in them will be 2139,2141,2143,2145.
We are aware there are some challenges on the unit and are putting some measures in place to try to support these complexities and concerns.
We recognize the importance of everyone taking turns moving through obs if trained, as well as being Charge. We will be reviewing this ongoing. This ensures that workload is equitable and competencies are maintained.
We appreciate everyone’s feedback and welcome you to come and talk to us anytime.

The family of our pt on the ward that had the c spine
fracture wanted me to be sure to pass along a very big thank you to everyone on
our ward for the care they have received. They had nothing but good things to
say and were very appreciative of all of the care from everyone from NB to
Saskatoon. A special thank you was requested to be passed along to you
especially, Dr Persad.
It is always nice to hear the good things so I wanted to be
sure you all heard this.
