PIPD Update August 29, 2025

Spotlighting World Patient Safety Day - September 17, 2025

“Safe care for every newborn and every child”

Our Journey by Gaia Orion part of the HeART of HealthCARE virtual gallery

From Sharon

Safety overview for August:

Med errors have been picked up quickly and efficiently by our team. Nice work!

Room to improve is ensuring admission orders are being double checked in MAR and acccurate.

Safety’s We have had some safety’s due to falls. Please ensure these are reported. Be aware and ensure parents are aware of specific protocols for our patients so that we can reduce the chances of this occurring. Make sure to print & fill out the Fall Record #101853 on FOD.

Education we have several staff that haven’t signed off their learning for 2024/5. I have the forms now so please send me a note so I can initial if you have done a module. Then I don’t have to hound you  : )

EVD cart- Ideally this would be restocked and checked after each use but can we please have CN/ Resource check/stock these every Sunday to ensure this is being done as well? WS & ordering forms are in the Neuro Binder with cart.

Ed days: FT and PT staff should all be assigned now. IF you do not have a date, please contact Sharon ASAP. We would like to open up these dates for casual staff by mid Sept.

BP cuffs: I will mention to UA’s as well: Male adapter end of BP cuffs are going missing again. When removing these, please ensure the adapter stays with the cuff not the machine. We replaced about 20 this week.

Flex kanbans will be changed out in the coming weeks. This means that 4 of the rooms in flex will now be stocked with our kanbans rather than PICU kanban. Rooms changed over will be: 31,33,39,41

Thank you! A big thank you to volunteers for both reviewing of new violence training modules as well as flu peer immunizers!  There was an amazing response which is so appreciated! Also for those that were willing to help out this weekend. A big Thank you!

Students start this next week. Please keep an eye out for them and give them a warm welcome.

Staff room please ensure you are putting away food when you leave the staff room. As you all know, we have had bugs in there recently - it is resolved but we want to keep it that way. Please do your dishes asap for this same reason.

Safety For Supervisor sessions – are you due?? Now is the time to take advantage of an alternative for the long version of Safety For Supervisors. The current Safety For Supervisor sessions listed on the Training Registration System (TRS) are at capacity and the sessions will continue.

The  Flipped Webex Course, is an alternative through Worksafe.

  • This module can be done anywhere and at any time (even during a slow night shift)
  • This module takes approximately 3-4 hours which is half the time of the current flipped Webex course
  • No more waitlists or full classes.
  • Meets legislation requirements.
  • All those that oversee or direct the work of others need to have this course.  This can now be done in a timely manner.
  • Need a refresher every 5 years.
