Hi Everyone. Thanks for another hard
week at work!
Master Schedule Update:
I think the discussion went relatively well overall, and it felt like
everyone’s voices were heard. It sounds like SUN will be able to create a new
master schedule using our current schedule as the foundation, while adding the
additional full-time equivalents (approximately 25 lines) needed to balance the
numbers. Phew — I’m very encouraged by the direction this is heading.
Once the draft schedule is completed and goes through the usual review and
back-and-forth process, we should have a clearer timeline for line selection.
At this point, the projected implementation date for the new schedule is August
23.
Please feel free to reach out to Sharon or me with any questions or if you
need clarification as we move forward with this. I will send out the minutes as soon as I get them.
We’re almost there! If your name is on this list, you are among the few
staff members who still need to complete the mandatory Cybersecurity Privacy
Training.
Please take a few minutes to complete it as soon as possible. The training
link was sent to your SHA email. As an SHA employee, completion of this
training is an expectation, and it is now overdue.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this.
This is what site manager coverage looks like:
During each shift, site
managers deal with any and all issues presented to them from the sites they are
covering. Staffing is a large component of their work, but they address
literally anything that requires their intervention. The hours of operation are:
-
Monday
to Friday 2pm to 10pm
-
Weekends
and stats 3 shifts – 8am to 4pm; 12pm to 8pm and 2pm to 10pm
Site managers work closely
with the site leads, directors, unit managers, on call team, scheduling and NRT
manager. To reach a site manager please call switchboard and ask for the site
manager covering JPCH.
Having site manager
coverage until 10pm means that the JPCH on-call managers only start being on
call at 10pm instead of 4pm. As we start coverage, site managers may reach out
to you if they have questions. Coverage
of JPCH will begin on Tuesday May 19, 2026, after an onsite orientation with
each of the inpatient unit managers.

As a request from SLP we will be purchasing our
own Gelmix to have available if ordered evening or weekends. I’ve stashed 3 containers in unit 3 team above
the computer.

Pyxis Discrepancies
Reminder - it is each nurse's responsibility to resolve any discrepancy from their shift prior to leaving. Please check the Pyxis each shift and if your name is on a discrepancy, select it then hit "resolve". Explain why there was a discrepancy - there are pre-made options to choose from or you can write your own. Pharmacy has sent the following email:
Hi,
This is a
reminder that there are multiple outstanding narcotic discrepancies on your
Pyxis stations. You will notice some of them are >15 days outstanding
and it is the responsibility of your department to resolve these. For
best practice, discrepancies should be resolved at the end of every
shift. These records must be accurate to align with Health Canada legal
requirements. If we cannot get these figured out I will need to escalate
to the next level,
including reporting these to Health Canada.
Unit huddles qshift are an important part of identifying nursing concerns or where support may be needed (ie: never bottle fed an infant in side-lying outside the classroom). It ensures nurses are not working in silos & information/education can be shared. If you have already been doing huddles, THANK YOU. If you haven't been doing the huddles, please start. This will be extremely important with the increase of new hires.
CNE Update
Gtube Nurse/Feeding Tube Nurse
You must do a referral on SCM - there is also a paper downtime req that will be in the filing cabinet if SCM is down. Go to Referrals option - scroll to "Pediatric Feeding Tube Nurse" and select. You can choose routine or urgent. Please enter as much information as possible so the Feeding Tube Nurse can prioritize - example: granulation tissue. The Feeding Tube Nurse may even just call you to give you a plan of care until they can assess.
New Hires to PIPD
Starting May 26, PIPD will have 10 new hires. Another group of new hires will start June 12. We are thanking you in advance for your mentorship and guidance. To assist us with supporting education, we have revised the PIPD Orientee Shift Summary. We have done this to help guide the new orientee's bedside organization and to find gaps earlier so we can support them. We are asking those who Mentor to observe a Head-to-Toe Assessment on each patient on each shift for all of their buddy shifts. This will provide a wider snapshot of their organization, family centered care, and accuracy & thoroughness of assessments. This is information already reviewed before they get on the floor.
