👑 IVIG Infusion
It is recommended that vials be arranged for infusion from smallest to largest vial size (if there is an IVIG reaction shortly after infusion initiation, less product will be wasted) as per the Blood Product Monograph

File Cabinets

We are trying very hard to ensure file cabinets are stocked regularly (this is a night duty for our UA’s that has been put as a reminder in their blog). Please note:  In each filing cabinet there should be a “Home IV” tabbed folder with the 3 page Community Intravenous Therapy Order sheets.  The CPAS sheets go in a separate folder. These were in place but have been removed over the last months so we wanted to ensure everyone was aware of the separate folder that is now back in place. Great ideas from Ed days re: a QI team to support managing and reorganizing these forms in the near future!

Vocera’s – can everyone please check their homes and work bags to see if they accidentally have a vocera? We are missing many. We will reach out to residents as well. We do have some new ones coming that were sent to IT to be catalogued, but we anticipate we will still be short.

Bagged lunch program.

Over the past three weeks, RMH noticed a significant number of leftover lunches in the PIPD fridges, which suggests that fewer lunches are being picked up or distributed to patients' families than anticipated.

RMH would love to hear your feedback on whether they should adjust the number of lunches they provide or if there are any challenges preventing the lunches from reaching families who may need them. Our goal is to ensure that families continue to have access to nutritious meals while minimizing food waste and making the best use of our resources.

If there are any changes RMH could make to improve the distribution process or better meet the needs of the families we serve please also let us know that.

THANK YOU!!  Without the hard work and dedication on our front line, we could not function on this unit. This is demonstrated time after time and it is recognized by many.

On behalf of John Ash and myself, we want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone as we continue to manage challenges associated with high-capacity pressures across our Saskatoon hospital sites. Your hard work and commitment are greatly appreciated.

We recognize that capacity pressures create a difficult environment for patients seeking care, as well as challenges for staff, physicians, and paramedics who continue to provide excellent care. High occupancy, patient flow challenges and increased demand require thoughtful decisions each day, while teams work together to support safe, quality care.

Throughout this period, we continue to hear positive feedback from patients and families about the care, compassion, and professionalism they experience. This reflects the commitment you and your teams continue to demonstrate to patient- and family-centred care.

Our culture is one of sharing the load, and that continues to be evident in the teamwork and collaboration taking place across units, departments and sites. Your flexibility, leadership, and willingness to support one another are helping us respond to pressures and continue providing the best possible care for patients.

Thank you for all that you do. Please share our appreciation with your teams and continue to reach out where additional support may be needed.

Mark Fenton MD MSc FRCPC

Deputy Chief Medical Officer
