CNE message - If the physician has ordered irradiated platelets– the blood bank might send you up Psoralen treated platelets. As per the Lab Medicine component and product catalogue – Psoralen treated platelets cannot be irradiated, but are safe to be administered to patients with indications for irradiated blood transfusion. Therefore Irradiated Platelets can be interchanged with Psoralen Treated Platelets. If in doubt, and the blood bank does not have an answer for you – Please call switchboard and ask them to page the physician on call for Transfusion Medicine. They are always there as a resource.
Working with Police - as part of an investigation police are able to come to the unit to interview a patient, but in the case of a minor there must be an adult present. This can be a guardian/relative or staff, and Social Work involvement is warranted. The patient has the right to refuse at which point the police wouldn't have a need to remain on the unit. If there is not an adult present or there are issues, please escalate to manager. An interview of a patient does not include the need for anyone to automatically disclose Personal Health Information. Access to Personal Health Information by police is subject to the procedures outline in policy SHA-07-003P3 Disclosure of Personal Health Information to Police searchable on the SHA policy finder by simply entering 'police'.
Linen Needs - on the huddle board there is a list we need your input on for linen needs to address the shortages that you see.
