TPN Filters

• Primene filter (our normal 0.2 micron): we have submitted the request to increase each unit's stock. Fingers are crossed this is approved and stocked quickly.
• SMOF filter (the 1.2 micron): we hear you! We are trying to work out a plan with Pharmacy but we need safety reports please - the details are our evidence to make change. 

Concerns with the Lab Compendium?

We have discussed concerns with the Division Lead of Lab. He was very interested in the examples we shared about how the compendium isn't meeting the needs of you - the frontline staff. Help us make change!

We need specific tests that you are unable to find &/or what details are missing that impact your ability to get your sample done. ex: vancomycin can only be found if you search "vancomycin" (not "vanc")

Concerns with Monographs or if you have to infuse a med with no drug selected:

Please let a CNE know in detail what happened. We can advocate for monograph and pump drug library changes but cannot do it if we don't know. Examples of change made possible by you:

• sodium thiosulfate: monograph reconstitution clarified and change currently live. 
• calaspargase pegrol: monograph is being created; drug library being updated to allow a 10% dose and will be live on July 2.
• phosphate potassium: pump library updated/created to align with safest rate for the maximum potassium component for peripheral administration and central line administration - will go live July 2.
• IVIG: pump library added maximum dose to current lines to improve safety - go live July 2. 

Social Work SCM change

To reflect the dual roles of Medical Social Work and Discharge Planning, the names of the following documents in SCM will be updated.

From Sharon and Tammy:

NEW learning: privacy module for 2025 is out. This is what it is called and is available on my connection.

Short notice trades: Just a reminder, we still are having problems with people making last minute trades. These need to go through and be approved by Staff scheduling in a time appropriate manner to avoid confusion for CN and schedulers. Short notice trades will not be approved by CN. If they are not approved by scheduling or manager, the trade cannot happen. We do understand that things come up unexpectedly, if so please reach out to Tammy or Sharon. To avoid frustration with trades not being approved in a timely manner, please apply early.

From Pharmacy: Please note, per SHA policy Narcotic syringes cannot be left in the drawers. If they are drawn up they need to be used right away or wasted. Thank you for following policy.

Shift change reporting: Please ensure there is a verbal report given by receiving nurse when there is a shift change admission. We know the timing is not ideal but it is the small details of a verbal report that can provide important information for transfer of care. 

Breaks: We really hope this doesn’t happen but sometimes missed breaks are out of your control. If you realize you will be missing a break or you do miss your break, please let the CN know. They can either find you the support you need to get your break or, after the fact, note this on the bottom of the flowsheet so we can understand who didn't get a break and why. Thanks!

Staffing: with some of our temps ending this summer we have an overlap of additional needs for staffing, please connect with Tammy or Sharon if you are interested in filling these.
