PIPD Update Nov 21, 2025

Save the Date: CISM to come soon for the staff from November 20, 2025

Reminders:

Playroom:
*When preparing the young playroom (2374) for surge, please ensure that nothing leaves the space. All toys and mats should be placed in the cupboards, and the table and chairs moved under the window by the sink.  Child life is noticing that everything was placed into the immunocompromised room, which made it difficult for volunteers and staff to sort through. Your cooperation with organization is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

*all toys in the playroom are meant to stay in the playroom.  If your child is isolated, rec therapy can assist with finding toys, alternatively there is a give away cupboard in the unit 4 team room that you can help yourself too!

*remember to use volunteers! You can reach them by calling rec therapy

Teacher Referrals:
Please continue to submit teacher referrals for your patients. Once submitted they are suppose to print at unit 1. Check the printer or let a teacher know a referral has been sent. Put referral into Teacher mailbox in Unit 1.

Now a special note from our lovely new Manager:

Thank you for the warm welcome and all the congratulations sent my way – and for the delicious cake!  Many of you know I have been at the beside for a while and transitioning into management is new for me.  I want to acknowledge that right up front – I’m learning as I go and I will embrace every bit of it!

What I do bring is a lot of heart, a respect for the work we do, and I’m committed to supporting this team.  I know what it's like to be in the thick of it, juggling emotions and relying on the people around you.  That experience is what I want to carry into this new role.

I’m also excited to be partnering with Sharon.  I’m grateful to learn from her and to work alongside her as we support the unit, staff and patients together.

Thank you – Kelly.

CNE Update

NPs joining the surgery team for the next 3-6 months: Some of you may have seen some new faces rounding with peds surgery this week. Jen Lowe and Shasta Zeeman are nurse practitioners mentoring with peds surgery. They will be participating in rounds, assisting with procedures, working with the surgeons in clinic and observing in the OR.
Shasta and Jen are new to the service and are learning. There are no major changes for processes at this time - continue to call residents & MRPs - but want PIPD staff to know they will see NPs on the unit with peds surgery for the next few months!

NG Placement Checks: pH is best practice for confirming NG placement. Air Checks are not best practice. If you are unable to get enough gastric content to check pH, troubleshoot with positioning patient, re-measuring with a new NG to see what depth should be, then talk with physician for possible CXR. Reminder: NG tip should be measured to sit halfway between the xyphoid and bellybutton. Please see NG Discharge teaching document.

Wound Care products
  • The wound care shelf in Walmart has grown to include Track pads.
  • Anacept (wound cleanser) - stored on wound care shelf in Walmart - we still have a couple bottles but it will be removed as SHA moves to the new and much better product: PureCleanse
  • PureCleanse (wound cleanser) - lots of bottles in Walmart on the wound care shelf. SPD will start stocking it soon.
What is PureCleanse?
What do you need to know? It still requires an order because it is an antimicrobial. Use per Wound Care &/or MRP's direction.

  Back Orders:
Graduated cylinders are on back order. SHA is looking into a solution/replacement.

Baby Wipes are also on back order. You may see a different brand as a replacement. If you are completely out, you can use the Sage Essential Wipes.
