PIPD Update June 12, 2026

Hi everyone –  happy reading!

A recent conversation with one of our team members served as an important reminder of the many demands our nurses and frontline staff carry every day. While we often focus on the positive opportunities that growth and change can bring, it is equally important to recognize the challenges, pressures, and extra responsibilities that staff are navigating right now. We are grateful for the honesty, courage, and advocacy shown in sharing this perspective, as it helps us grow as leaders and support our team better. Together, we will continue to listen, learn, and work through both the challenges and opportunities ahead. We do recognize how hard everyone works, the daily pressures as well as the continuous pressures of new learning and ongoing change. We will strive to better communicate and acknowledge this.

Peds has been a popular place lately!  As patients are discharged or if disposition plans change, please remember to update the coordinators as soon as possible. Those updates make a huge difference and help everyone involved in the daily game of Tetris keep things moving smoothly. Thank you!

4th-Year Nursing Student Preceptors Needed

It's that time again—we're looking for preceptors for our upcoming 4th-year nursing students!

If you're interested and have the capacity to support a student, please let us know. Sharing a student is always an option and can be a great way to contribute to their learning while balancing workload demands.

Thank you for investing in the next generation of nurses and for everything you do to make our unit such a supportive and welcoming learning environment.

Encountering errors with password changes: many are experiencing the following error when attempting to reset their password:

"You cannot change your password because it is not expired or an administrator did not make a request to change it."

What you should do

- If you are not experiencing access issues, no action is required at this time.
- If you need to reset your password, please use the "Forgot Password" link available on the sign-in page and follow the prompts.

We’re working on it

Our team is actively reviewing the situation to determine if any adjustments are needed and to ensure a smoother experience.

We will provide updates if there are any changes or actions required.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Reminders:

The pick up location for shuttle at RUH will be temporarily changing effective Friday June 5th . the shuttle will now be stopping just north of the previous location by the Cancer Clinic due to construction.

Friendly Reminder for New Staff

Our patient room bathroom floors are flat, which means shower water can easily escape into the room. When a patient or family member is using the shower, we typically create a small "ledge" with flannels at the bathroom entrance to help contain the water.

If you're not sure what this looks like, don't hesitate to ask a teammate—we're happy to show you!

Medication and Transfer Orders

·         Once the transport RN arrives at JPCH and care has been transferred, any medications from a non-SHA sending facility must be discarded.

·         After admission to an SHA facility, all medications must be ordered by the patient's Most Responsible Physician (MRP) and supplied through the SHA pharmacy.

·         If a dose is needed immediately – the MRP must write an order and pharmacy can be notified stat.

·         For in hospital transfers (PICU, NICU, and DUBE transfers), transfer orders from the sending unit are considered recommendations only. These orders must be reviewed and co-signed by the receiving MRP or designate before they can be acted upon.

·         The resident should be contacted upon transfer to the ward.

Charge Nurse Meeting

It's time for a Charge Nurse Meeting! Please send me a DM with any topics you'd like to see discussed so we can make the meeting as useful as possible.

Schedule Update

We're getting very close! SUN is currently reviewing the schedule, and we have a meeting with them on Monday to finalize details before posting it.

Our current goal is to complete line selection before the end of June and transition into the new lines on September 20. As always, timelines can shift, but that's the plan we're working toward right now.

Thank you all for your patience as we work through this process!

Kelly & Sharon.

CNE Update:

Supply changes:

Chest Tube supplies - location change & additions
We have requested SPD stock the following supplies on the bottom shelf of a cart in Walmart:
  • chest tube clamps
  • chest tube clamp tubing
  • 12" drainage tube with 1-way stopcock
  • infant Pleur-Evac canister
  • adult/regular size Pleur-Evac canister
The canisters & 12" drainage tube have already been moved to Walmart.

Empty IV bags for medications
The empty IV bags for medication use are in every clean supply IV Cart - with the blood administration sets. The current box from Walmart will be removed.

Intranasal atomizer - location change
We have asked for the intranasal atomizer device to be stocked in each Clean Supply Cart - row C. Once it is stocked on those carts, it will be removed from Walmart.

Premature sized diapers
We have requested to have Premature sized diapers added to our supply cart. We have also requested that all the diapers are organized to size.

JoAnn, our IPAC RN had a question from staff about AGMPs and what is/is not an AGMP as well as do we need settle time. This is her response:

DROPLET/CONTACT PLUS:

Once an AGMP is complete, remove the AGMP in Progress poster. Settle time is not required for Droplet/Contact Plus Precautions (i.e., immediately after AGMP, staff may wear a medical mask when entering)

Settle Time would be used for an Airborne Precaution room's AGMP.
