PIPD Update April 4, 2025

Code red – every month there will be a new code that is reviewed. There is information posted on the huddle board. Please have a look.

Kanban - Just a reminder to flip and move the boxes in the Kanban when you take the last item from the box. It will not be restocked if the person doing it doesn’t know it is empty.

Short Notice Leave - Another reminder to be sure you are calling the charge nurse when taking leave on short notice. If you simply put it in online, staffing does not always notify us and the charge nurse cannot check the sheets multiple times a shift.

Nursing to do every admission.... - With accreditation we need to be doing a falls risk assessment on admission. The assessment we currently have in place to do this is the entanglement risk sheet. It comes with your admission package when you get your chart from the front. Please start doing this. We are not too worried that the form does not currently capture everything with a falls risk assessment. There will be a provincial assessment coming in the future so for now we are using what we have.

Sharon Courtney will be staring in her new role as manager of PIPD on Monday April 7th. Gail will continue in her role as temp in-scope supervisor until the end of April to support this transition. Sharon will take over in Jon’s old office and will can be reached at (306)514-8839 or (306)655-2059. Gail can be reached on Vocera, in Lynette’s old office, by email or her personal cell (306)370-2055 starting Monday.

CNE Update

Congratulations to......

9 new Obs Trained staff who completed their course last week! 🙌

7 new Chemo Trained staff who completed the course this week! 🙌

Buffer Tabs for Gastric Washing - these are located in Walmart. You need 1 container per patient. Each container has 3 buffer tabs so it is enough for 3 gastric washing collections. IF YOU TAKE THE LAST CONTAINER - phone Clinical Micro at #1770 and explain that we need more buffer tabs and have one of our UAs go to get it.

Alteplase for an occluded CVAD - anyone who attended Ed Days in Fall 2023 is certified to do occlusion management to any type of CVAD - as long as you have done the 2024 MyConnection Pediatric & Neonate Central Venous Access Device (CVAD) module too. Since Fall 2023 Ed Days, all staff taking the Obs Course have gotten trained.
