What a week it’s been. It may have felt like a long one, but it was also full of teamwork, resilience, and support for one another. Thank you all for the hard work you continue to show every day, for stepping in where needed, and for looking out for each other—it truly makes a difference.
Don’t forget to check the Peds social page on Facebook for some upcoming fun. The sweater order wraps up today, so be sure to get yours in. A big thank you as well to everyone who helped celebrate our special patient’s first birthday. The photos were absolutely adorable and such a lovely reminder of the joy you help create.
A few small reminders as we move forward together. Continuing to work as a team in the little moments can have a big impact. If we’re short a UA or two, even simple gestures—like tying up a hamper bag, bringing it out to the hall, or helping with a transfer—can really support those around you.
For IV pump labeling, consider using waterproof tape instead of stickers when noting weight, height, BMI, and other details. It removes more easily and helps keep things looking clean and tidy.
We’ve also seen some incredibly thoughtful gestures from staff who have purchased personal items for patients such as pads and deodorant. That kindness does not go unnoticed—thank you for your generosity. That said, please be mindful of where these items are stored, as some have gone missing overnight. On a helpful note, pads are available free of charge at the sexual health clinic. Sharing this information may help support both staff and patients alike.
Thank you as well to everyone who responded to the recent Code Navy, whether you were called in or stepped up to assist. Your support and teamwork in those moments are invaluable. The key takeaways have been attached for review.
Update from MyConnection
There has been an update to improve how employees and managers access accrual balances, making the process more user-friendly and accessible.
As of Thursday, March 26, accrual balances can now be accessed without connection to the SHA network, allowing for mobile and 24/7 access.

Please note:
- Accrual balances are updated weekly by end of day Wednesday to reflect time taken
- Monthly accrual balances are updated once the final day of the month has been processed by payroll
We’ve also introduced a new decision tree to help guide vocera calls to residents and ensure they remain meaningful and appropriate. The approach is simple: if you have a question, concern, or uncertainty, start by asking a nurse within your unit. If things are still unclear, reach out to the charge nurse or resource nurse, and from there determine whether a resident needs to be contacted. And as always, try to connect before handover whenever possible.
Looking ahead, there are some meaningful and fun dates coming up:
- April 7: Wear Green Day in support of the Canadian Transplant Association, as we remember Humboldt Strong. Coffee and snacks will be available on the main floor at JPCH.
- April 19–25: Volunteer Week
We’re also trying something new with our giveaway toys. The giveaway cupboard will be replaced with a “Zone-To-Go” cart, stocked with activities and small toys. Volunteers will bring the cart room-to-room, offering items directly to patients. We’re excited to see how this works—please share your feedback.
